Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has recently reiterated his commitment to rebuilding Amaravati as the state’s capital city. He emphasized that the process would be completed in the quickest possible time. Naidu’s government had initiated the development of Amaravati as the capital during his previous term, following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014. However, the project faced delays and challenges, particularly after the YSR Congress Party, led by Jagan Mohan Reddy, came into power in 2019 and halted the development in favor of a three-capital plan.
Now, with Naidu back in leadership, he aims to resume and expedite the construction of Amaravati as the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh. Naidu’s vision for Amaravati has always been ambitious, imagining it as a modern, world-class city with significant infrastructure and urban development. His statement reflects his determination to restore this vision and move quickly to make Amaravati a thriving capital city.
This also marks a sharp contrast with the three-capital approach advocated by the YSR Congress, where the plan was to have Visakhapatnam as the executive capital, Kurnool as the judicial capital, and Amaravati as the legislative capital. Naidu’s stand could trigger further political debates in the state over the future of Amaravati and the overall development strategy for Andhra Pradesh.
