Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana has announced that the long-awaited development works for Amaravati, the state’s capital city, will be completed within a time frame of 30 months. Speaking on Sunday, Narayana reaffirmed the commitment to making Amaravati one of the top five capital cities in the world, in line with the ambitious plans initially devised during the tenure of N. Chandrababu Naidu.
This announcement comes as part of the larger push to revive Amaravati’s capital city project, which was originally set in motion by the Naidu-led government. After facing significant delays and a change in approach under the YSR Congress government’s three-capital plan, Narayana’s statement marks a clear return to the earlier vision for Amaravati as the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh.
Narayana stressed that the focus would be on implementing the plans that were laid out before the development was stalled. This includes infrastructure development, sustainable urban planning, and creating a city that could compete on the global stage in terms of modernity and livability. The renewed efforts are aimed at not only fulfilling the promise to the people of Andhra Pradesh but also at making Amaravati a benchmark for capital cities worldwide.
If successful, completing the project within this 30-month timeline would represent a significant achievement for the government, providing a major boost to the state’s development and economy. The plan is also expected to benefit the farmers who had given up their land for the capital’s construction and restore investor confidence in the region.
