Loan for Amaravati and Polavaram

In a significant move, the central government has approved a loan of ₹15,000 crore for the development of Amaravati as the capital city of Andhra Pradesh. This budget allocation fulfills a major demand of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which has been a key ally in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre. The funding will accelerate Amaravati’s construction, which was stalled after the shift in the state’s governance model towards a three-capital approach under the YSR Congress.

The loan will be instrumental in realizing the vision for Amaravati as a modern, world-class capital city, addressing critical infrastructure needs, urban development, and public services. The central support reinforces the renewed focus on completing the Amaravati project within the ambitious timeline of 30 months, as previously outlined by the state government.

Additionally, the budget has promised significant financial assistance for the Polavaram dam project, which is crucial for irrigation and water supply in Andhra Pradesh. The Polavaram project, often described as a “lifeline” for the state’s water needs, has seen delays but is now set for faster completion with this financial backing.

Apart from Amaravati and Polavaram, the budget also addresses the development of backward districts in Andhra Pradesh, ensuring that the state receives grants for uplifting regions that have been left behind in terms of infrastructure, industry, and employment opportunities.

This comprehensive financial package represents a significant victory for the TDP and offers much-needed momentum for both Amaravati’s capital city project and other key infrastructure initiatives across Andhra Pradesh.
